Livestock

Berkshire Hogs
At Evermore Farm, we strive to be true to the heritage of this land. Therefore, we raise livestock that would have been here when the farm was founded. Currently, we have Dexter cattle, Katahdin sheep, and a variety of brown egg laying hens. These breeds are all pasture raised, free range animals, making the food they produce healthier and better tasting than commercially raised livestock. For more information on these breeds and their heritage, visit the link at the bottom of this page.

Katahdin Sheep (Hair Sheep)
Katahdins are hardy, adaptable, low maintenance sheep that produce superior lamb crops and lean, meaty carcasses. They do not produce a fleece and so do not require shearing. They are medium-sized and efficient, bred for utility and for production in a variety of management systems. Ewes have exceptional mothering ability and lamb easily; lambs are born vigorous and alert. The breed is ideal for pasture lambing and grass/forage-based management systems. Our sheep are on pasture year round.
Dexter Beef Cattle
Pound for pound, no bovine can match the diversity of Dexter cattle, one of the smallest cattle breeds. Standing just 36 to 44 inches at the shoulder, Dexters are the perfect old-fashioned, family cow. Gentle, versatile and economical, Dexters efficiently turn pasture into rich milk and lean meat. Dexter meat is of good quality, well marbled, very tasty, and very lean. In recent years, interest in Dexter cattle has surged worldwide.
